Travelling with kids in Hobart

It can be challenging to make a family trip fun for everyone, but we’re here to reassure you that Hobart is a very family-friendly city. With native animals to encounter, museums to explore, waterfronts to wander, and a mountain to traverse, Hobart has plenty to keep your whole family entertained.

Animal encounters

A Tasmanian holiday isn’t complete without seeing our most beloved native animals, so best tick it off your list first. At Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, you can see wombats, tassie devils, echidnas and plenty more cuddly and not-so-cuddly native animals up close.

kunanyi/Mount Wellington

If your kids are seeking adventure, we recommend taking a trip up kunanyi/Mount Wellington, which is just a quick and easy drive from The Old Woolstore. With breathtaking views, bush walks for all abilities and plenty of mountain bike tracks, kunanyi is a place to burn some energy for nature and adventure lovers alike.

Hobart Aquatic Centre

Go for a swim! Unless you're a seasoned Tasmanian, our beautiful beaches may feel a little chilly, but how does a swim at the pool sound? At The Old Woolstore, guests receive complimentary passes to the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre swimming pools, which have a kid's area and a waterslide and are only a 5-minute walk away. Head to our reception to get your passes.

Museums

The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) is a five-minute walk from The Old Woolstore and a great place to take curious kids. And although it has an adults-only reputation, don't dismiss MONA. It has plenty of outdoor areas for kids to enjoy, with giant sculptures that double as a playground and a huge trampoline. Inside the museum, the MONA staff can help you decide what to view and avoid, depending on the age of your kids.

Hobart’s waterfront

Hobart's waterfront has something for everyone. Discover sculptures on your walk, see yachts, fishing boats and old wooden boats, and keep your eyes open for the occasional seal. When you get hungry, head to the fish and chip punts on Constitution Dock, and don't forget to get some ice cream, too! The Old Woolstore is right on the doorstep of Hobart’s waterfront, making it the perfect place to stay.

Accommodation

At The Old Woolstore, we have accommodation options perfect for families. Our two-bedroom apartments have a large dining and living area, a full kitchen, a washing machine and a dryer. They also have an ensuite with an additional separate toilet and sink.

We also have the option of booking connected apartments. This option can give you and your kids a bit of time apart when you need it, but with a private, secure entrance for peace of mind when moving between the two spaces. You can also choose from 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom options with an extra bathroom.

With a dedicated Kids Menu at our onsite restaurant, 24-hour room service, 24-hour reception and a late 11 am checkout, we make travelling with kids as easy as possible.

Hobart is a fantastic place to travel with kids, and at The Old Woolstore, we love catering to the whole family. Get in touch with our friendly reception staff for more tips for family-friendly trips around Hobart , or head to our Travelling With Kids page for more information.
